Show Desktop missing

Has anyone else noticed that "Show Desktop" is missing from the Quick Launch bar?

I thought that one of the options I was using was causing it to disappear, so I used nLite to do nothing other than integrate RVMUpdatePack2.1.5a and still the "Show Desktop" icon is missing. Could it possibly have something to do with RVMUpdatePack2.1.5a?

Anyone else notice this?

Let me guess..

you all integrated Internet Explorer 7.0?

It's caused by that. The folder "%appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch" gets created too late so that the shortcut "Show Desktop.scf" will not be created...

You have to run "%systemroot%\system32\regsvr32.exe /s /n /i:U shell32.dll" after 1st logon and shortcut will be created again.

Maybe nuhi can help there to automate this

If you just need it back temporarily whilst you use Windows,

search your C drive for .scf. I always have this problem

and have a massive reg tweak to make it show quick launch

and put the "Show Desktop.scf" file in $OEM$\QL_ICONS\ then

write that into your CMD commands somewhere:

Of course if you're gonna use the %CDROM% variable you need to tell it that

in the very start of the commands and also use the huge buncha hex registry

tweak at T-12 to create the quick launch and enable it.

No IE7 integration for me, I'm letting the rest of you beta test that thing for about 4 months before I touch it.

It's not just a missing showdesktop.scf, it's that Quick Launch is turned off by default and had to be manually turned on now.

IE7 Is Final some month ago, and I can tell you that it works! FLAWLESSLY, the only thing missing is the show desktop link, that you can reach by pressing Win Key + D, or by copying the SFC yourself, no big deal.-

I had it gone too, but there's a way to get it back, like here it's explained: http://www.petri.co.il/forums/archive/index.php?t-288.html and no I didn't had IE7. Something I noticed, even though I don't delete/remove "send to -> desktop (create shortcut)" option, it is still gone like is the Show desktop button. Wonder what component/service or other thing removes it, if it isn't that tweak/patch option where I let it still be. Tweaks -> General settings -> Explorer and there is "Remove Send to on context menu". There's a way to restore it also, but with nLite'd XP those trickd didn't helped, said they can't find something etc. Wonder does anyone know about this, would help me. I think it's a bit easier to use Send To menu than create the shortcut, then moving it to Desktop.

Edit: Oh what I used to do, was I made that Show Desktop icon/button and saved it on to CD too so I was able to quickly copy it to my Win\System folder.. just a note if ppl can't find out what removes it

I have two addons that I add with nLite to fix this problem. This is the easiest and simplest way round it.

Do a search for the addon by Ricktendo called "Quick Launch Addon" which ensures the quick launch bar is enabled by default. This was posted in approx 11th September.

Both of these work perfectly and I am using the latest version of IE7.

Having made several tests, I found out that the Show desktop icon appears later when IE 7 is called first (Quicklaunch bar activated beforehand).

Personally, I'd prefer it lacking as I can't stand it.

Does anybody here happen to know if there could be done something against it?

I just do not like this "feature" at all!
