pcandpc
Hello?I am using Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless routerfor my DSL connection. At one point, I wasn't getting any IPfrom the router, and realized that myphysical network connection to the routerwas down (no lights).Simply disconnecting and reconnectingthe network cable worked then. This time, however, I'm not getting anyIP from the router even though the connectionlights are up on both the router and the networkcard on the computer. Here, simple disconnection and reconnectiondidn't wake up the dhcp function on the router;I had to disconnect the power to the router andreconnect it.Now, is this the router problem, the network card,or the ISP? jcarle
Update the router's firmware to the latest revision, reset factory defaults, and do a cold-reboot. See how that goes, if you're still having problems, we'll see what we can do to help you identify them.
ringfinger
Indeed. I have the same router as you. You could also try setting a static IP on your system within he DHCP range of your router. This happens to me alot as well, sometimes I have to do a release/renew from the router itself. The address will be your gateway when doing an IPCONFIG, most likely 192.168.1.
pcandpc
Hi jcarle and ringfinger,Thanks for your feedbacks.Well, the router is already updatedwith the latest firmware and still exhibitsthe problem occasionally. And, once the issue occurs, ipconfig /renew/release doesn't work at all.I would appreciate if you have anyother thoughts. nitroshift
Why don't you set your IP to static?
jcarle
Looks like you guys aren't the only ones with problems:http://www.virtualtravelog.net/entries/200..._tolerance.htmlI think you should change your routers to a newer WRT54G.
ringfinger
@ pcandpc - Have you connected to your router over the web, gone to "Status" and clicked the release/renew for your router itself so it will pull the public IP from your modem again? pcandpc
Hi,As for using a static IP instead of dynamic, unfortunately, the router doesn't provideany means to do so either based on a MACor client computer.I guess I can manually put in a static IPon the computer as a work around.I've also tried connect/disconnect onthe router configuration but doesn't help.It appears that only physically disconnectingand reconnecting the power cord does the trick.Meanwhile, hopefully, Linksys comes upwith a new firmware release. Thanks Edited December 15, 2006 by pcandpc
