LU1814: LiveUpdate could not retrieve the catalog file of available Symantec product and component updates. Please verify that you are able to connect to the Internet and run LiveUpdate again.

I've gone through the steps on most message boards. When I go to Symantec and try to do run a program that is supposed to help, the computer freezes. The .dll file that can be changed does not appear to be on my computer.

My firewall settings (which are turned off) cannot be changed. The options are all grey.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm totally fed up with this whole thing.

Symantec not working properly? What a surprise! ....... <_<

Go with Kaspersky and you'll never look back. Cheers.

And incase you reply with "that didn't help me with my problem", I'd suggest just reinstalling the software and try an update.

Well, he hasn't specified whether or not he's using Symantec or Norton. They are within the same family of products but are two seperate products. Even still, both do have similar processes and services that install. Either way, they are both s***ty products. Money and resources have given them recognition and popularity, but they suck.

Eh?? Symantec is the coproration, Norton is the product...

LiveUpdate is the program used for all Norton products, so it could be Anti-Virus, Ghost, Syetm works.....etc

anyway, try doing a uninstall and reinstall, see if that fixes it.

However, if it is Anti-Virus, considering something like NOD32, which is brill and wat I use, also voted most used Anti-virus here:

A lot better than Norton Anti-Virus, which i used to use.
