ersears Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I am using the svcpack.inf method to slipstream my windows updates files, however, I cannot get the Type 2 hotfixes, as labeled here. I am using the /Q:A /R:N switch in the inf file, but during windows install, at the end, I get a message saying that the switch is not right and I have to redownload all the type 2 hotfixes from windows updates. I had the same problem with using nlite as well, so that's not much of a solution either. If you have suggestions, great, if not, Thanks for all the help this site has provided. I have been able to successfully install Adobe Reader 7, Firefox 2, Adobe Flash, Windows Live Messenger, AVG antivirus and a few other programs as well as some registry tweaks, plus a great unattended way to install windows. This will save me tons of time when I am working with clients. Thanks againersears
cluberti Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I hate to ask something obvious, but have you tried running these hotfixes with the associated switches in a VM with the clean OS loaded? Since most VM applications are free, it'd be worth trying to make sure it isn't giving you the error because the switches really are incorrect .
IcemanND Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Which updates are you trying that are not working?
ersears Posted December 6, 2006 Author Posted December 6, 2006 Which updates are you trying that are not working?it's all the type 2 hotfixes, i am using the switch /Q:A /R:N after each kb number. kb894542kb905756kb907417kb913807kb914455kb916518kb917149kb917151kb917334kb917344kb918419kb919029kb919031kb920103kb920907kb921566kb921580kb921587kb923088kb923091kb923094kb923095kb923097kb923272kb924424Cluberti - I have not tried to install them individually in a VM, but I could try it. I have been having a problem today with the install restarting 10 minutes into the install, but that's unrelated. i'll figure something out on that. Thanks

ersears Posted December 7, 2006 Author Posted December 7, 2006 (edited) Ok, so it seems i've gotten myself in a bigger predicament than I thought. I was originally setting up a disk using xp pro sp2, but had to setup another disk with xphome sp1. I started fresh, and slipstreamed sp2 first into the xphome folder, then added my folder with all my updates. I copied the svcpack folder and inf file from the xp pro folder I started with to the xphome folder and deleted svcpack.in_. It appears that none of the windows updates will install now. I know that i updated my dosnet.inf file, but can't find anything else associated with the svcpack info. Anyone have any thoughts on this???to make this simpler, i started with xp home sp 1. slipstreamed sp2. added svcpack folder and inf file to xphomes i386 folder, but the win updates will not install during windows setup.thanks again Edited December 7, 2006 by ersears
Sonic Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I see you use XP Home so try http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=57659It's faster than microsoft integrated method and easier too !If you want to keep Microsoft method, re-make from scratch your cd.
gugutz Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 what about those:KB890830.exeKB913433.exeKB918899.exearen´t those hotfixes that has to be put in svcpack?i never was able to integrate them with nlite.is there more hotfixes that nlite does not integrate?wondering if i don´t have the full list of hotfixes....
ersears Posted December 7, 2006 Author Posted December 7, 2006 Ok, so I am not good with following instructions. turns out all the type 2 updates I had were for Office 2003, so, I slipstreamed those as necessary and reluctantly used Nlite to add the windows updates. I will be testing it all out in a few moments, but it should work as planned. I'll report back when I verify that my xp Home SP2 cd is complete. Thanks again for your help
ersears Posted December 8, 2006 Author Posted December 8, 2006 (edited) Ok, so I ended up going for the very less than traditional method by using RunOnceEx.cmd to install all the updates. Everything works and I am super happy. I wonder if anyone knows a way to have it display the number for which update is installing. oh well, it'll all be fine. I guess I do have a few apps that won't run on a silent install, but it should be alright. Thanks again to all for your help and this website especially. I've learned a lot about the windows installation process and I can't wait to do this again for vista!! Edited December 8, 2006 by ersears
