Browseui.dll not found and SysRestore won't run!

The other day I used sytem restore to an earlier date because my sound driver or something was messed up. This usually fixed the problem, but this time it really caused a problem! Upon logging into XP, it said something like "cannot find browseui.dll" and my startbar/explorer/etc does not show up. I tried running SysRestore through Task Manager to see if I could fix it that way, but it won't run at all. Please help!

Thanks alot for the reply, but what if I don't have XP Service Pack? Plus, I should mention that about a year ago I had my PC worked on by a friend of a friend, and he installed XP illegally. When I tried to install a genuine XP that I had, the CD didn't work and I have since lost it.

By the way, it says: "The file 'sr.sys' on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK."

You can download Service Pack 2 freely from Microsoft. If you don't have an XP CD, borrow a friend's legit copy and use your own CD-Key (if you have one) for that version of XP (Home, Pro), or whatever means you can. If you have your own CD-Key for Pro, I'm sure someone from MSFN, including myself, would be nice enough to lend you a hand in obtaining the files.

I really appreciate the help, but I have another problem. I don't have internet explorer, and it won't let me DL sp2 without it!

But let's say I get around that. Do I download that, find a legit XP Cd, and re-install XP with a CD key or what?

Actually you're right I do have it. But I just tried to run it and it won't run either! Is there something wrong with my Windows apps? Only things like Firefox are running.

Well, you can download SP2 with any browser that has access to the Internet. Just Google "XP Service Pack 2" and the first link should take you to a download page.

If IE isn't working for you, you likely have an infection for which you should use:

Ad-Aware SE

Spybot

Kaspersky or NOD32 (anti-virus)

HijackThis

CWShredder

Dial-A-Fix (re-registers the DLLs files to fix most common functionality in Windows)

Guys,

Thanks for all of the help. I actually solved the browseui.dll problem by downloading it from a website and extracting it to System32 (someone else's suggestion). As far as the WMP thing goes I'll just install iTunes.

*clears eyes* Did I read this correctly? Do I see "I'll just install iTunes"? What "WMP thing"?
