Is it ok to use update.exe from the common directory?

I could only assume so, if it's the same version, etc. - here's a timestamp/filesize of the files I have under the SP2\Update folder :

02/27/2002 05:58 PM 4,092 eula.txt

09/02/2003 11:59 PM 19,131 KB826939.cat

09/17/2003 01:19 PM 22,016 spcustom.dll

09/17/2003 01:17 PM 568,320 update.exe

09/02/2003 11:50 PM 47,065 update.inf

09/02/2003 11:23 PM 2,652 update.ver

There were really only ever 2 versions of this patch. The original version released 15Oct2003 contains version 5.3.23.4 of update.exe (has problems installing when you don't have the Debug Programs user right) and version 5.1.2600.1301 of msgsvc.dll and wkssvc.dll. This is the version that also does not copy wkssvc.dll to the dllcache.

The updated release occurred on 29Oct2003. This one includes version 5.4.1.0 of update.exe and 5.1.2600.1309 of msgsvc.dll and wkssvc.dll. It correctly copies both files to the dllcache on installation.

Note that both the 1301 and 1309 versions of msgsvc.dll/wkssvc.dll will protect you against the vulnerability detailed in MS03-043.

The only users who will need to redownload are those who obtained the patch before 29 Oct 2003. If you are unsure which version you have, extract the contents and look at some of the version numbers or compare the MD5 sums below.

Please, some Hotfix Slipstreaming Expert Personnel could really inform me where can these hotfixes be called from:

-822603 - USB fix

-823718 - MDAC security fix

-817778 - Advanced Networking

-dotnet framework

I called these both from svcpack, cmdlines and runonceex(made by cmdlines).

Does anyone experienced problems with these fixes? :)

Actually I also had trouble with 817787 (media player 8 upgrade), but i succeeded integrating it just like gosh did with the rollup. (another inf, edit txtsetup.sif, compress hotfix files, put into i386, include catalog)

10kyouall

2,908,808   Q828026.exe
365,152     Q828035.exe

Could you check q824141

I downloaded it twice, and the filesize is 2,223,200 not 2,728,544

The update suggests it is from Oct 29, and on the first page of this thread it is listed as Oct 15. Maybe Microsoft have changed it? Or is it just me?

Thanks

Quote AaronXP:

Yes you're right, the filesize has changed to include this fix: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=830846

Well, but if they ADDED 830846, shouldn't it be BIGGER in size, not SMALLER?

Should I replace my old version with the new one?

I just did an install last Monday, and no critical updates came up when I ran Windows Update, even though I had the old Q824141...

:)
