Rayza Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 I've got 10 PC's on a network, all connected properly. One of the Pc's has a connection to the internet via a modem(broadband not dial-up). I've shared the internet connection and here's my problem....The shared pc gets its IP address of 192.168.0.1 OKThe rest of the PC's don't pick up their IP so i have to set it manually. If i ping an internet address (196.25.etc) from any PC i get a reply, but if i ping a www address i get nothing. The gateway ip on all pc's is 192.168.0.1 and so is the DNS IPWhat could be the problem?I've had the modem connected via a USB cable and connected directly to the switch, with the same result. If i try a broadband router will this solve my problem?
jcarle Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 To my knowledge, ICS only works properly with two network cards. One you'd plug the modem into, the other you'd plug the switch with your 10 computers all of which should be able to get the IP using DHCP.Obviously, a broadband router is a much cleaner and simpler choice. If you already have a switch, then you could pick up a router without an internal switch such as the Linksys BEFSR11.
Sonic Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 The gateway ip on all pc's is 192.168.0.1 and so is the DNS IPExcuse me but you have set DNS server to 192.168.0.1 or you have just specified the gateway ?If DNS is set already to 192.168.0.1 and doesn't work , try to set DNS of your ISP.
