PauloPires Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Hello!!I have a ASUS P5P800 SE motherboard that has only SATA1 and i would like to know if i can use a SATA2 HardDrive on it with no problems?Thank You!!!
PauloPires Posted November 22, 2006 Author Posted November 22, 2006 Yes, at sata1 speeds. But i don't have t change anthing on the motherboard, windows or Harddrive right?
LLXX Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 You might need to set SATA speed to SATA150 in BIOS.
bledd Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 hard drive may also have a jumper for selecting sata1 mode
uvmain Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 sata 2 drives have no need for speed jumpers.. they are backwards compatible with the SATA 150 chipset. you will lose the 3GB theoretical thrughput, and you will lose NCQ if your drive supported it.It's like the difference between PCI-E x8 and x16..There is no hardware that can push that much bandwidth, so you will notice no difference whatsoever, unless your drive would be able to do NCQ under SATA 3GB.
