random system reboot

Recommended Posts

About once or twice a week my system suddenly reboots by itself. Once back in Windows it says Windows has recovered from a serious error after a few mins of hard disk crunching.

I dont think its the regular sobig virus because my PC is fully patched up and has latest definitions and firewall.

It needs to be fixed just in case it happens when im doing some work, so if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

No not overclocking, where is the option for auto-reboot? It never used to do this until about a month ago.

Its a 5 month old PC so I dont think it could be hardware related but cant be certain of that.

In Control Panel, go to System properties, then to the Advanced tab. Under Startup and Recovery, click the Settings button. Remove the check in the box that says "Automatically restart", then OK, and you're done.

You may want to check your Event Log to see what the specific problem is. That may tell you a bit more info about the problem.

switched auto restart off, hopefully it shouldnt happen now. replacing ddr with faster ram then backing everything up for a big format mission

It will not restart now instead it will blue-screen and from that blue-screen you can often get information on what file is the root cause of the instability.
