realized Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Do i need to somehow convert the exe to a msi? And are there instructions/howto/website that would show me how to deploy this accross a gpo?
stephens316 Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Um by the time you figure it out you could have it already installed lol, but anyways we use win installe to creat the package if that helps you out just install the software take a before picture and install the sofftware and an after picture msi package created. hope this helps
cluberti Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Wininstall LE is freeware that will repackage an .exe to .msi - it's basic (just takes a before/after snapshot), but good for all basic to moderately complex installations:http://www.ondemandsoftware.com/PurchaseLE.aspAs to the actual motions of pushing out software via a GPO, the following article is a good primer on how to do it:http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...plications.htmlI would obviously suggest strongly that you do neither of these things in production first, but in a test environment until you get it right.

jftuga Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 How to publish non-MSI programs with .zap filesAlthough the MS KB article does not explicitly list it, I assume this works with Win 2003, too. Does anyone know for sure?Thanks,-John

cluberti Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Hm - it used to be free. In fact, I believe you can find a version on the Windows 2000 CD...
