Zoom7000 Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I regularly listen to BBC Radio 5 Live using their streaming service. However, all of a sudden, WMP gives me total silence! It loads the stream fine and you can see the counter moving along and the stream is playing fine. However, there is no sound whatsoever! It plays using Media Player Classic fine. However, it won't play at all using WMP. It won't even play using the WMP codec in the BBC Radio Player. I've even lost all sound when trying to view streaming videos from the BBC in WMP. The video plays fine, but without sound. It can't be a problem with the BBC, because it works fine on other computers.I've tried upgrading to WMP11 but that hasn't fixed the problem. I'm baffled because everything else plays fine. I can play MP3's and other video clips in WMP fine. Just not streams.I've checked all the usual volume controls, so any ideas?
Jeremy Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Try reinstalling the Windows Media codecs. Link, and another link.
Zoom7000 Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 Well, I did recently install WMP11 in the hope that it would fix the problem. Should this have not fixed the codecs? Also, it does say at the bottom of that page:• Warning:- Do NOT use this package if you have Windows Media Player 7/9/10 installed!
Jeremy Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I don't see what's so bad, since it's just reinstalling the codecs. Those links have helped another member in the past and he reported no negative side effects in WMP after doing so.
Zoom7000 Posted November 8, 2006 Author Posted November 8, 2006 I just gave both of these a whiz, and no improvement whatsoever. Any other ideas?
Jeremy Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Nope, you got me. If you fix it, be sure to let us know how. Cheers.
Zoom7000 Posted November 9, 2006 Author Posted November 9, 2006 Well I'm pretty baffled too, it is a domain machine and they're all pretty standard so I might just run RIS on it, kill it and start afresh. I need to test my updated image anyway. Oh well, I'm just glad it hasn't happened on my home machine.
