Hello,

After 10 years of "trouble-free" use, I'm now advised that my account has been closed and access denied.

I've reported the problem to MS support and the latest reply states

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"My name is XXXXXX and I gather that you are unable to access your

account. I apologize for the delay in responding to your e-mail. Your

patience and understanding regarding this matter is greatly appreciated.

I understand how important it is for you to have your account reopened.

Let me assist you with your issue.

XXXXXXXXX, when we are in receipt of a complaint against one of our users,

we research the issue fully. In this particular case, a message was sent

from this account and "verified" through the X-Originating-IP which is

included in every mail sent from a valid Hotmail account. Once accounts

are closed, we have no means to grant access to anyone. No new e-mail is

received at this account and no e-mail is sent from this account. All

e-mail sent to this address will bounce back to the sender as

undeliverable.

To protect the privacy of those who forward complaints to our customer

service regarding one of our members, we do not discuss the reason for

the closure. No e-mail sent to this account will be accepted as it will

bounce back as undeliverable. No further information is available or

replies will be sent to you regarding the closed account.

No account content/stored e-mail/incoming e-mail will be forwarded onto

another destination nor access to the "closed" account for information

harvesting be granted. Please review the Terms of Use (TOU), which you

agreed to upon signing up for the account, at

http://privacy.msn.com/tou/.

You are valuable at MSN and we look forward to providing you with

consistent and effective service. Thank you for your continued support

of MSN Hotmail.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXX

So, MS understands how important it is for me to have my account reopened

and then two paragraphs later

No further information is available or replies will be sent to you regarding the closed account.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any suggestions?

I use Hotmail to keep in touch with friends and family.

Cheers,

N

PS: I'm assuming that my emails are going to and replies are coming from the REAL Microsoft

X-Originating-IP is very easy to fake... that's no means of verification.

I think what happened was someone hacked your account's password and then used it for spamming.

Accounts are deleted, not "closed".

Anyway I'd just create a new one, these accounts are free anyway and M$ can close/delete them at any time they want.
