sk8er_boi Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I want something like this.I'll put a user sharing permission on a folder. And that user has a password. When remote user clicks on my folder at network neighborhood a prompt should ash him for a username and password. When i click now only says access denied. Is there a way to do this?
Takeshi Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Access denied usually is due to firewall blocking or sharing permissions incorrectly set.
sk8er_boi Posted October 19, 2006 Author Posted October 19, 2006 How should i set permissions? And i have no firewall. Actually on same lan.
N1K Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Can you check and write here how did you setup share and ntfs permissions?
sk8er_boi Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 Can you check and write here how did you setup share and ntfs permissions?Nowi made an account with admin perms. And made a folder.Removed all user entries from network sharing perms. And added only this account. With all permissons read write everything.i want a login box when i click on this share from a remote computer.
N1K Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 You'll get a box if you're logged on as another user than the one who has access to this folder..If you're logged on as an admin you want be asked for creditentials since you're already authenticated to the network..

sk8er_boi Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 Yes of course in same workgroup. And simple file sharing is disabled.
IcemanND Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 you have two machines, for the sake of discussion the one with the shared folder I'll call the server, since that is what it is acting like and the other the client. If you want the client to connect to the folder on the server and have to enter an ID and password then the account that used to log on to the client computer cannot exist as an account with permissions to the folder. Or an alternative is to not have the same name and passworded account on the server at all. You only get prompted to login to shares when the login account and password do not match what is valid on the share for the server. Then it prompts you to enter the appropriate credentials that the server knows about to give you access to the folder. Either the ID or the password can different or both.Is that clear as mud for my 1k post.
