R600 Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 I'm wondering how many people have used Freeserve back in the days before Broadband became available. For those who have used Freeserve, I would like to ask if and how could I make a 56k connection download webpages; antivirus updates faster?
Aaron Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 I'm on Freeserve 56k and I don't tweak the MRU settings or anything of the like. Top speed I get on it is 6kb/secUsing Mozilla Firebird will speed up web browsing noticably (has a far better cache system than IE) but I hate the browser!
crowman Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 Im not to sure how you would be able to download the anti-virus updates any quicker with a 56k connection, no solution apart from look around and see if you can find all the updates to download e.g. p2p and then save them to disk for future reference Used to have 56k and the tweaks never worked for me
Drewdatrip Posted September 7, 2003 Posted September 7, 2003 No real honest way to increase the bandwidth of a 56k. A 10k trasfer is gonna be the highest you can get. |Drew|
ggtyh Posted September 7, 2003 Posted September 7, 2003 The only ways I know to increase the speed of a dial-up 56k connections are-material compression (up to 10%)-many parallel connections with a router that can do load balance.
