is there a way to force a regular win xp cd to accept a oem key

Featured Replies

HI

i have a smal question for you guys:

is there a way to force a regular win xp cd to accept my oem cd key?

i have talked with microsoft an they wont give me a ansver.

and Dell wont give me a new install cd. :realmad:

so now im sitting here on an illegal copy  , since i dont have any install cd for my oem key.

if it helps here are the details.

cd key type : windows xp pro sp 1 norwagian

computer : dell latitude D400

the cd i have is.

windows xp pro sp2 retail norwagian.

i have tryed the fix on this site:

http://www.petri.co.il/use_oem_version_to_upgrade_xp.htm

but it wont work.

so do anyone have a idea of what i can do??

- Copy content of your retail sp2 cd to a folder

- Copy OEMBIOS files / setupp.ini / pidgen.dll /dpcdll.dll from original dell cd source (cabbed version) to the same folder

- Reburn the new folder : it's your new winxp cd and don't forget bootsectors to make cd bootable.

This CD will accept your dell key and activation will be based on bios detection so no activation by internet or phone needed.

first of all

thanks for the help.

but the old dell cd (oem cd) is so broken, that i cant read from it.

but is it possible to uce the oembios files from a old hp xp home cd i have ??

or will the difference betven xp pro and xp home make this impossible.

Edit:

it didnt work.

tryed to copy the files:

PIDGEN.DLL

SETUPP.INI

DPCDLL.DL_

from the I386 folder on my HP cd (win xp home cd)

to the I386 folder on my retail cd (win xp pro sp 2)

The files from a Dell SP2 CD are compatible with more machines than the files from a SP0 or SP1. If you have a new machine the old files may not work.

>or will the difference betven xp pro and xp home make this impossible.

OEMBIOS files are independant of any particular Windows.

>it didnt work.

Randomly copying files will get you lucky sometimes. Learning how to build the CD will get you the right thing every time. Start here:

@nokiakiller: You must pickup oembios files from a genuine dell cd. From other brands that doesn't work !

not to mention theres a huge difference between home and pro. home has a few more features here and there, more keyboard choices, also you can set keyboard buttons in home, i can't do that in pro. but soon i'm gonna have a DAS blank keyboard, so meh.

Home and Pro don't mix. you can install home as much as you want, but once you install pro, it'll be hard to get home back on.

aaah! I've got a simular problem, only a slightly less comlicated.. I hope.. I've got an xp pro corporate cd, but an oem key.. now the only thing I think i'll need are those files Sonic had... and I can't find them anywhere

I'll keep searching though

Copying a OEM XP Pro. CD from a friend/family/office is more "legal" than use "volume media" modded to OEM CD ...

Moreover you need to find "files" listed before from an OEM CD ...

We can't help more snorrip3.

btw, Welcome to msfn !
