Alright I am interested in a Thermaltake Armor pc tower. There is about $40 differene between the silver and black towers also it seems the silver tower is half the weight of the black tower?!?!

Black CASE

Net Weight 16.2Kg

Chassis: 1.0mm SECC

Silver CASE

Net Weight 7.5Kg

Chassis: 1.0mm

I noticed that the black case has SECC chassis what does this mean? Anyone have these cases that could provide some type of comparison?

My last PC used a Thermaltake Armor. Honestly, I don't think I'd buy one again. Just check out the thread where I was talking about a new rig. I didn't think much of the Coolermaster Stacker (looked like a very generic tower), but after looking into it a bit better I'm sold - thanks to puntoMX! It's better in every aspect IMO (except perhaps looks which really was the last criteria on my list)

[edit]: I only own the silver one, so I can't compare between the 2 (not that I'd buy one again). SECC is a [good] type of steel (better than SGCC, and cheaper than [overrated] Aluminum). BTW, The CM Stacker is made from SECC too.

Indeed,

The 7.5kg one is Aluminum and the 16.2Kg is made out of Steel with Zink, so it’s not Galvanized like most of the cheap *ss cases build out of 0.6mm. Zink is used so it doesn’t corrode that fast.

I would take the steel case:

pros:

- Stronger

- Less expensive

cons:

- Less cooling then the aluminum case,

but that’s almost nothing with those 12cm fans in it.

Did you take a look at the Coolermaster case?

The mass ratio of 2.16 compares well to the mass ratio for aluminium and steel, 2.9. (Probably the aluminium one has slightly higher volume of aluminium for better strength)

Aluminium is more expensive because it's lighter and resists corrosion. However it is weaker.

Both are not likely to be factors in deciding between metals for a PC case. Steel is stronger and cheaper.
