Vinal to PC

I have a large record collection, mainly 12"'s, and have decided to transfer the lot to my PC. I need advice on the type of software i might use to transfer a large amount of single track records to the PC.

I also need hardware advice, but will post in the Hardware section.

Windows comes with a sound recorder that will work perfectly fine for this purpose.

If you want a more powerful audio editor/recorder look at Audacity (free,open-source): http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

What you should be more concerned about is the hardware, you'll likely need an amplifier since a turntable's output may not be powerful enough to be directly connected to the PC audio input.
