Aero is a DX10-based GUI. I wonder why he/she asked about Aero under DX8....

Hmm... Works pretty good in DX 9, just wondered if anyone had tried with lower DX versions.

And he/she asked because that's what they have.

DirectX 10 comes with Vista, and Vista only. But... that's for games basically.

The Aero interface is actually DirectX 9 based. DirectX 10 won't be a requirement for Vista Premium untill 2008

Useful information, but can you provide a link? And the original post was about whether someone had tried vista on a dx 8 GPU...

dx8, who cares!?

Obviously, someone with an older system that likes what they have. I'm looking for information, not snobby snubs. You have no information.

True DX8 class hardware (ATI R200, NV20, Matrox G300) doesn't support aero glass features.

yes, because aero glass uses PixelShaders 2.0 with was intruduced with dx9

Thank you. That's useful information.

So most any graphics card that has pixelshader 2.0 will work for Aero. Explains some laptop issues I've seen.

so aero and glass effects are directx 9

do they need dx10 at all?

could then this dx10 and opengl32 dll's not be replaced by dx9.dll from xp and opengl32.dll from xp?
