LLXX Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Google "TCP parameters" to get started. Maybe the recieve window or the MTU isn't set correctly.I haven't noticed any sort of limitations with my machine (built-in Realtek 8139 NIC), I've gotten >1.1MB/s with FlashGet.
Countach69 Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Windows TCP/IP settings are far from optimal; this also includes XP.1a-Do a download test.1b-I like to download the Chimp Demo from ATI's website.hxxp://www2.ati.com/misc/demos/ATI-9800-Chimp-Demo.mpg(Replace the hxxp to http)1c-Take note of the speed at which you are downloading.2a-Go to the following address: hxxp://www.speedguide.net/(Replace the hxxp to http)2b-On the left side select: SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer2c-This will analyze the TCP/IP settings of Windows.2d-Look at the section labeled: bandwidth * delay product2e-You will see the maximum bandwith your current TCP/IP provide.2f-Take note of these results.3a-Now, again on the left side, select: TCP Optimizer3b-Download: TCP Optimizer3c-Go to the middle of this webpage in the section: Microsoft Windows 9x Vtcp.386 Update3d-Download: 236926usa8.exe4a-Execute the Microsoft patch: 236926usa8.exe4b-Don't reboot.4c-Execute: TCP Optimizer4d-Set the slider Connection Speed to: 15000 Kbps4e-Network Adapter selection: Select your Network card4f-Select: Optimal settings (located bottom right of the screen)4g-Select: Apply changes, then OK and reboot.5a-Go back to SpeedGuide.net website and redo the TCP/IP Analyzer test and look at the results.5b-Redo the previous download test from ATI.Countach69
Atmosphere XG Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 (edited) Hi all,I need help tweaking my machine to handle 10MBPSIt seems to be limited to 2MBPS.I had a tech use his laptop from my connection and he got 9.8MBPSCould this be my LAN card or is it a Registry tweak?I have a Dlink DFE-530TX Rev.C PCI Fast Ethernet Lan Please helpI'm getting 9.6 mbps and, I'm on Windows 98 First Edition. You may want to check your Ethernet Card. Mine goes only up to 10 mbps. However, once I upgrade, I should be able to get up to 15 mbps. Even before I tweaked my connection settings, I was getting 6.66 mbps. So, check your Ethernet card limitation. Edited September 8, 2006 by Atmosphere XG
kartel Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 Countach69 your the man!I fixed it up good with your directions, thank you very much. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
LLXX Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 It actually worked? That's interesting... the TCP Analyser claimed my TCP window size was too small (8760) and the maximum speed I could get was 43Kb/s. I've downloaded at several hundred kilobytes per second before (sometimes even several MB/s), so something's not right... did the procedure Countach69 suggested and tried downloading some hueg files from M$ which I've gotten >1MB/s before, but it dropped down to less than 16Kb/s... Set the TCP window size back to 8760 and rebooted, instantly got >1MB/s again from same file Maybe it only works with certain connection types, I'm on 128M fiber connection.
kartel Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 Holy crap!I did the tweaks on the speedguide and now my connection is through the roof! SG Registry Patches and older tools <<link HOLY #@$% I feel like a maniac now, thanks again, Countach69Dude this is insane, I got ZAP and my router inline too, sweet hint, wow.....
