NUTTER123
Hi folks. Hoping somebody can easily take me through an installation of 98SE. I've downloaded so far the unofficial service pack and updates from this page:http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#98SEI got some info about my system using sifost sandra which I've included down below. My BIG concern is for my wireless net as I fear it might not work. Anything else recommended I download?SiSoftware SandraSystemHost Name : NUT-612DD8FA5D6User : AdministratorWorkgroup : NETGEARProcessorModel : Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.20GHzSpeed : 3.19GHzPerformance Rating : PR3990 (estimated)Cores per Processor : 1 Unit(s)Threads per Core : 2 Unit(s)Internal Data Cache : 16kB Synchronous, Write-Thru, 8-way set, 64 byte line size, 2 threads sharingL2 On-board Cache : 2MB ECC Synchronous, ATC, 8-way set, 64 byte line size, 2 lines per sector, 2 threads sharingMainboardBus(es) : ISA PCI PCIe IMB USB FireWire/1394 i2c/SMBusMP Support : 1 Processor(s)MP APIC : YesSystem BIOS : Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PGSystem : MEDIONPC MS-7091Mainboard : MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-7091Total Memory : 1GB DDR-SDRAMChipset 1Model : Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/GL/P/PL/GL Grantsdale Host Bridge/DRAM ControllerFront Side Bus Speed : 4x 200MHz (800MHz data rate)Total Memory : 1GB DDR-SDRAMMemory Bus Speed : 2x 200MHz (400MHz data rate)Video SystemMonitor/Panel : Medion MD30217PG C07Adapter : MEDION RADEON X740XL (Omega 3.8.273)Adapter : MEDION RADEON X740XL Secondary (Omega 3.8.273)Imaging Device : Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000Physical Storage DevicesHard Disk : WDC WD1600JD-00HBB0 (149GB)Hard Disk : WDC WD1600JD-22HBB0 (149GB)Hard Disk : Generic CF Card CF USB DeviceHard Disk : Generic MS/SD Combo MS USB DeviceHard Disk : Generic SM/xD Combo SM USB DeviceCD-ROM/DVD : HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B (CD 52X Rd) (DVD 7X Rd)CD-ROM/DVD : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 (CD 40X Rd, 40X Wr) (DVD 5X Rd, 5X Wr)CD-ROM/DVD : MF5031S QFG921C SCSI CdRom Device (CD 32X Rd) (DVD 4X Rd)CD-ROM/DVD : MF5031S QFG921C SCSI CdRom Device (CD 32X Rd) (DVD 4X Rd)CD-ROM/DVD : MF5031S QFG921C SCSI CdRom Device (CD 32X Rd) (DVD 4X Rd)CD-ROM/DVD : MF5031S QFG921C SCSI CdRom Device (CD 32X Rd) (DVD 4X Rd)Logical Storage DevicesHARD DISK (C:) : 149GB (70GB, 47% Free Space) (FAT32)GOODIES (D:) : 149GB (37GB, 25% Free Space) (FAT32)CD-ROM/DVD (H:) : N/ACD-ROM/DVD (I:) : N/ACD-ROM/DVD (E:) : N/ACD-ROM/DVD (K:) : N/ACD-ROM/DVD (L:) : N/ACD-ROM/DVD (M:) : N/ARemovable Drive (F:) : N/ARemovable Drive (G:) : N/ARemovable Drive (J:) : N/APeripheralsSerial/Parallel Port(s) : 2 COM / 1 LPTUSB Controller/Hub : Intel® 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2658USB Controller/Hub : Intel® 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2659USB Controller/Hub : Intel® 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265AUSB Controller/Hub : Intel® 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265BUSB Controller/Hub : Intel® 82801FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 265CUSB Controller/Hub : USB Root HubUSB Controller/Hub : USB Root HubUSB Controller/Hub : USB Root HubUSB Controller/Hub : USB Root HubUSB Controller/Hub : USB Root HubUSB Controller/Hub : USB Composite DeviceUSB Controller/Hub : Logitech USB Camera (Pro 4000)USB Controller/Hub : Generic USB HubUSB Controller/Hub : X10 USB Wireless Transceiver (ACPI-compliant)USB Controller/Hub : Sony Ericsson USB FlashUSB Controller/Hub : USB Mass Storage DeviceFireWire/1394 Controller/Hub : VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host ControllerBluetooth Device : Microsoft Bluetooth EnumeratorBluetooth Device : MSI USB Bluetooth DeviceKeyboard : Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Keyboard (IntelliType Pro)Keyboard : HID Keyboard DeviceMouse : Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Mouse (IntelliPoint)Mouse : HID-compliant mouseHuman Interface : Bluetooth HID DeviceHuman Interface : HID-compliant consumer control deviceHuman Interface : HID-compliant consumer control deviceHuman Interface : HID-compliant deviceHuman Interface : USB Human Interface DeviceHuman Interface : USB Human Interface DeviceMultiMedia Device(s)Device : NebVideo, WDM Video CaptureDevice : NebAudio, WDM Audio/MPEG2 CaptureCommunication Device(s)Device : Standard Modem over Bluetooth linkPrinters and FaxesModel : Microsoft Office Document Image WriterModel : Adobe PDFPower ManagementAC Line Status : On-LineOperating System(s)Windows System : Microsoft Windows XP/2002 Professional 5.01.2600 (Service Pack 2)Network ServicesAdapter : VIA Rhine III Fast Ethernet AdapterPerformance TipsNotice 5901 : CD 1x= 150kB/s; Exercise caution when comparing measured versus published ratings.Notice 5902 : DVD 1x= 11.08Mbps Exercise caution when comparing measured versus published ratings.Tip 2 : Double-click tip or press Enter while a tip is selected for more information about the tip. Petr
The following drivers may be required for Windows 98SE:Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/GL/P/PL/GL Grantsdale Host Bridge/DRAM Controllerhttp://downloadmirror.intel.com/df-support...finst_autol.exehttp://downloadmirror.intel.com/df-support.../ENG/readme.txthttp://downloadmirror.intel.com/df-support...eleasenotes.htmMonitor/Panel : Medion MD30217PG C07http://download2.medion.de/downloads/treiber/display.exeAdapter : MEDION RADEON X740XL (Omega 3.8.273)Catalyst 6.2 https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default...mp;folderID=297Omega drivers: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win9x_me.php (no idea if it supports X740XL)Imaging Device: Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/download...tid=6023,OSID=5USB Controller/Hub : Intel® 82801FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 265CNo driver for Windows 98/98SE/MeX10 USB Wireless Transceiverhttp://www.x10.com/products/x10_cm19a.htmftp://ftp.x10.com/pub/applications/firecracker/ck18a.exe - no idea if it supports Win98VIA Rhine III Fast Ethernet Adapterhttp://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VT6105_VT61...106Sv28FVIA.zipor http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VT6105Mv25FVIA.zipWindows 98SE has no support for Intel ICH6 SATA controller, you can use your SATA hard disks in the following two modes:SATA only: 4 SATA disks are emulated as PATA disks, in this mode no PATA disks/CD-ROMs can be usedCombined: 2 SATA disks are emulated as PATA disks and 2 PATA disks can be used. BIOS in my MSI Speedster 915GM motherboard does not have this setting, all BIOSes in Gigabyte motherboards have it, you have to check this. You have 4 SCSI CD-ROMs in your system?I'm not able to identify the wireless network adapter in the SiSoft Sandra output. Everest output is much better for this purpose. For all other items there is not sufficient information in your post. The biggest problem will be lack of USB2 support, the only solution would be to buy some VT6212 or uPD720101 USB card if you have free PCI slot, it costs $5 - $10 only. Also the disk arrangement may be the problem.Petr

Also my 2 drives are 149 and 148GB.......will I need anything special?I cannot find any wireless adapter named RTS2500USB.If you are using on-board audio it should be CMedia CMI9880L and there is no support for High Definition Audio in Windows 98/98SE/Me.At present I see the following problems:No USB2 driverNo Audio driverNo native SATA driver, it has to be checked if the BIOS has the ability to set 2 SATA + 2 PATA modeUnknown status of your wireless adapterPetr

I realise I have to do it in DOS mode so I would assume instakk 98 first and do something in real DOS mode? Assume that would mean copying and pasting that using command prompt? To what folder? Eck
I think MDGx made an installer for this, but the files are in Windows\System\iosubsys folder.

To what folder?Just search for "ESDI_506.PDR" and you'll find where the existing file is, copy the new one over it from DOS mode (actually, it seems you can copy it from within Windows as the file is not locked unlike the kernel, but a reboot is probably needed to load the new driver.)
