u just emulate the image file and follow the instructions.. it works just fine.. the problem was a corrupt windows installation so it didnt work.. install took 40 minutes here..

I still believe that booting off a dvd and installing on a clean primary (and active) partition is the best way to do it.

that truly is the best way to do it.. but emulating works too for people without a dvd-rom

You mount the image in alcohol or deamon tools while in XP and then start the setup from XP pointing at a formated partition?

I`ve wasted enough DVD`S trying to burn it!

I haven't tried with the latest version but it used to work because the installer starts in windows. While in windows it actually copies the dvd to the HD before the computer ever resets and then it does the rest of the install from the HD. This is the way the installer has always been designed since sometimes detecting cd/dvd drives can be an issue since they require their own drivers (although rare these days MS install system is still built around this principle).

well i hope this is true! im sure someone can see if this is true if they install it normally, then remove the dvd after it copies the files. image how much easier this would become when we start trying out unattended type stuff and nlite.

well obviously when u restart there isnt a mounted drive.. if it needed it it would display an error.. when u first start the setup it copies all the files to c:\somefolder..\ and the reboots.. it finishes the install from there.. that's why u need to have 3 gigs free on c:\ - the install files are copied there and then expanded and moved to the selected partition..

thx for the info on that, im just so used to xp where you need the cd in at all times.
