ceez Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 hello fellow msfn-ers!We want to implement a wireless router in our conference room but we cant to make it simple for our local users to use without having to memorize or 'write down' a hexadecimal somewhere on their laptops to be able to access the wireless ap.In the windows wireless configuration it only prompts for a KEY, I want to be able to use a passphrase instead. Is this possible? I've looked at the settings and it allows you to 'remember' the key, but when a user connects elsewhere via wireless woudlnt it conflict with that wireless network?thanks for the insight, ceez:thumup
CptMurphy Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 It shouldn't make a difference simply because each wlan spot has a differentiating ID of some sort; this would make it so that the various keys you have stored up aren't used on the wrong network.
ceez Posted August 28, 2006 Author Posted August 28, 2006 @cptmurphy, so we can manually enter the key and then it wont conflict with any other wireless networks the users encounter? now that I think about it, that makes sense.either way, is there a way to enter a passphrase and not a hex key?thanks again
Takeshi Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 (edited) In the Netgear wireless router, there're options for passphrase using WEP and WPA but there doesn't seem to be this feature in Linksys if you can't find it (there isn't in the WRT54G).Each wireless router has it's own SSID so it shouldn't conflict with each other.Windows remembers each router's SSID with it's own key so why need to enter the key every time? And use WPA if possible.
