capitalcg Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Hi...I've been using Nlite for awhile now and I've been having troubles with online virus scanners, F-secure or Kaspersky. I'm using Nlite 1.0.1 with WinXP SP2 and left component Internet Explorer Core, removed IE, and using Maxthon. I go to F-secure online virus scanner to scan the computer, but the accept button is grayed-out. I've allowed ActiveX but no go. The same with all other online virus scanners they don't load... It seems all these online scanners need IE to work So, am I missing a componet or do I do something in Maxthon?
anonymous_user Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 (edited) have u tried adding teh site(s) to IE's trusted zone? just go to Internet Options in control panel.also if u rele need a online scanner, use the java version of Trend Micro's HouseCall. u can even use it Firefox/Opera. nuhi Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Just tried it and it's true, probably something related to activex got removed.Gonna try this more and if someone finds the cause post here, thx.
capitalcg Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 Hi all...Thx for some input. Anoymous_person... I've not tried adding sites to IE's trusted zone, but I believe it has nothing to do with that. But, I'll give it a try. I'll do some oddball diagnostics using Sysinternals Regmon & Filemon to see whats going on...
capitalcg Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 Hi...Anoymous_person adding sites to IE's trusted zone only allows Https (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure sockets) URL schemes not Http. For example, F-secure online scanner site is http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml and Kaspersky online scanner is http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner so added these sites is out of the picture of resolving this issue. Yea, I've tried Trend Micro's Housecall and It works when it wants to. Sometimes, Trend Micro freezes when it's scanning. Trend Micro's Housecall is not an efficient online virus scanner, but the only good thing it scans windows for vulnerabilities. The only good online virus scanners out on the internet are F-secure and Kaspersky because there're the only ones that can scan Rootkits, soon others will follow.
piXelatedEmpire Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I found removed IE and NOT IE Core still causes problems with IE frontends like Maxthon... I use Maxthon and just leave IE and the core and Maxthon works flawlessly
nuhi Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Well you could reported it earlier, why so scared It seems some scripting issue, all I tested with Maxthon was usual HTML pages and it seemed ok.
