I was recently using Musicmatch to copy music to my hard drive. The program autoruns and when I hit the "copy" button, it creates its own directory under My Music. On one of the last CDs I copied, I believe I may have removed the CD from the drive before everything was created. Now I received the following message, which I have attached. Basically, it says that the location is unavailable and to check to make sure that the disc is properly inserted.

I have already tried restarting the computer and that did not work. All the other directories in this folder work. It is just this one. Is there a way to delete it? When I tried to delete the folder, it would not work. Any suggestions?

You can use unlocker to delete files that are locked by another process or are unavailable to access from any other reason with Unlocker app..

Unlocker is freeware and you can get it here.

I downloaded the program and when using it, it tells me that nothing is locking up the directory but that it can still help me deal with it. I selected Delete and OK. I received a message that the folder was deleted with success. However, the directory was still present and when clicking it, I get the same error message as before. What am I doing wrong? Perhaps another program would work better. I don't know.

I'm trying to google for a solution but have no success. Can you rollback your system and do a system restore...?

If I find something I'll let you know..

You can also kill explorer by going to task manager and choose explorer.exe and kill it, then try to delete the files using the command line while explorer not running.

I tried this and got a "The system cannot find the file specified" response. I read somewhere that I might be able to delete this problem folder in Safe Mode. Is this correct? If anyone has other ideas, let me know. If I can't delete, so be it, I guess. I'm a little unsure about doing a system restore. I think I may have done that one time but with someone's assistance. I certainly do not want to mess up my computer just because of one insignificant folder. I want to find the most effecient and safe way to remove this folder.

Thanks,

David

I remember that i got a similar problem, where i was have an empty directory cannot be deleted and seems not existing for some applications, and the solution was backup and format.

If the above doesn't work, the file system could just be corrupt. Do a chkdsk.
Most definitely. Folders that can't be deleted nor accessed certainly point to a filesystem problem.

I would also suggest a surface scan of the drive, physical degradation of the platters may have taken place.
