Sonic Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 Okay I have removed all 'CacheSource' related custom actions and rebuild the .msi with IDS. But I'm not sure about eventual bugs in the future (reinstall, upgrade, repair) so I think I will make SFX method to keep original install ...I'm using french package ... anyone can install .msi from network without issues ?edit: end of my alone topic ... switched to sfx ... perhaps in next build of msn8 that bug will fixed ...
Shark007 Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 If you're up for it, here is a possible solution.Find and download ORCA, its an MSI editor released by microsoft.I've attached a small 7zip archive containg 3 tables.Use ORCA to import these tables into an original MsnMsgs.msinow attempt an install using only the /qb switch.shark
Sonic Posted July 10, 2006 Author Posted July 10, 2006 What did you modify in tables ? 'CacheSource' related ?

Sonic Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 Okay I will try, but your link is about msn7.x which works perfectly without any modifications here and by network too ... But with MSN8 I can't install from network ...
Shark007 Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Okay I will try, but your link is about msn7.x which works perfectly without any modifications here and by network too ... But with MSN8 I can't install from network ...The information on that page also applies to MSN8.On another note, are you using windows 2000 ? The following is a quote from microsoft Windows 2000 and earlier operating systems do not support passing mapped drive letter information between terminal server sessions. Since Windows Installer service runs as a service in the console session, mapped drive letters established in remote sessions are not visible to Windows Installer service, resulting in this error. Note that this limitation no longer exists in Windows XP and later operating systems.shark
Incroyable HULK Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Oh! I have the same issue (also using a french version!)Did you manage to find a simple workaround?
Kanti Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I just useStart /wait %systemdrive%\install\MSN\MSNmsgs.msi /qbAND IT WORKED
Incroyable HULK Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 (edited) I just useStart /wait %systemdrive%\install\MSN\MSNmsgs.msi /qbAND IT WORKEDCongratulation for not reading the topic at all. The problem we have is when you try to INSTALL FROM A MAPPED DRIVE OR A NETWORK SHARE.I ended up copying the Windows Live Messenger file from my network share to a temporary folder on the computer and deleting the file after the installation is done...
