I switched from cable internet to DSL offered through the phone company. Why? Mostly for the price difference.

59 usd vs 24 usd. 8 mb (cable) vs 3 mb (dsl). Performance wise I can live with dsl but it has an annoying habit of disconnecting when the phone rings. They have line conditioners with the kit but I cannot connect at all with the conditioners on the phone line.

Does anyone have a solution for the internet disconnecting when the phone rings? I cant go back to cable without paying a stiff penelty, so I will stay with dsl for a year.

Thanks I thought it would be something complicated like run a different line for the phones and and internet. I still may run a line with a line filter for internet. Which of the colored wires are needed for the internet connection because I may upgrade to a better type of wire for it.

The Internet uses the same two wires as the phone line. The extra two wires are there for another line.

If you don't want to go through the hassle of getting more filters, (this is what I have setup), split your phone line at the entrance into two, attach a filter to one of the outputs which then goes to all your phone jacks, and have the other output go directly to your DSL modem.

I have a PBX setup at my house and I'm only using two filters: one for the actual line and one for the alarm.

Remember: DO NOT connect a filter to the jack where you plug in your modem.
