raza Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Hey everybody, I want a software which can put a password to my external 2.5 HDD.So that if someone connects it to any computer.... without entering the password they cannot access it .I would prefer a free one, however do tell me about a good one.
Andromeda43 Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 And where is this password supposed to be located.....can't be in the HD because you can't get into it till the password is entered (somewhere). Can't be on the computer because you said "any computer".So, just where is this password going to be kept?It sort of like picking yourself up by your own shoe strings. Good Luck,
raza Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 If u look at the maxtor and other branded HDD they have some kind of a software that doesnot let u access them without the password.
jftuga Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Instead of just a password, you might consider using encryption. You should take a look at TrueCrypt. It creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mounts it as a real disk. Or it can also encrypt an entire hard disk partition or a device, such as USB flash drive.http://www.truecrypt.org/-John
LLXX Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 As above, just encrypt your sensitive files. It's much easier.
