Renaming some files causes them to become unstable..?

Featured Replies

Running W98se, 6-gig, 600mhtz, 128 ram, old Compaq desktop...

I relabelled a huge Mozilla Suite Composer file, and suddenly it was totally messed-up with email symbols and tags... I tried reformatting the word file, and copying it, and resaving it several ways, but without success...

I was forced to spend an hour editing out all the mess... Is there a way to repair this problem quickly?..

When I rename my downloaded pix, they become unstable, and only open with wordpad and notebook... I lose the pix...

Can pix files be renamed without them becoming unstable?.. and if they do become unstable, can they be restored by some trick?..

Be sure to leave the file extension unchanged (the three letters after the last dot). Example: while a file picture.BMP opens in MS Paint and works fine, renaming it to picture.TXT will cause Windows to open it in Notepad and you won't get a picture, just messed up text.

EDIT:

Thanks for the tip... I just never thought it was that easy..

Seems I'm being blocked from that thread, or my browsre is messed up...

Seems that some of my posts have been deleted..?

Thanks again...

You are welcome :)

About your browser problems try this:

1. Logout of the site

2. Empty browser cache

3. Delete the msfn.org cookie (or all cookies)

4. Close browser, restart browser and/or computer

This should be enough if there isn't some serious OS/browser/network problem.

P.S. You'll need to relogin again afterwards.

btw. if you're looking to replace your current browser, i'd recommend Opera. It's probably the best browser available and it's free.
