ddebacker Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Good morning,Is there any partition resizing tool that is available for free and that can resize NTFS partition without data loss (like Partition Magic does)?I am not looking for any demo version but more an open source or freeware. Thanks in advance,David.
DigeratiPrime Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 gparted is the only one I know of, I havent tried it though.http://gparted.sourceforge.net/http://gparted.sourceforge.net/features.php
pmshah Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 BootITNg will do it. It is not free but a fully functional try before buy shareware.
allen2 Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Systemrescuecd has most open source tools for partition manipulations. It works well.
eidenk Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Go at a big newsagent that's got all the PC magazines once a month and within a year you'll find for sure a free copy of one or another excellent professional Partition Manager on the cover CDs.I have got Paragon Partition Manager 2000 that I got this way in 2002 probably. And today I still have no need for another one. It's an absolute marvel.Otherwise you could try Swissknife, it is free but I have personally never used it so I can't comment on it :http://www.compuapps.com/download/Swissknife/swissknife.htm
Jito463 Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Personally, I wouldn't trust my data to a "freeware" partition resizer. Technically, though, I don't trust it to a pay-for one either. I always do a Ghost image first.
pmshah Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 I have been using a paid copy of BootItNG for last 3 years . It is a fantastic boot & partition manager. The current version supports DMA, SATA, USB2 & IEEE1394. It can directly image your partition to any removable cd/dvd media. It can undelete partitions. What you download as a trial is a fully functional version. I can practically swear by it. This is what permits me to have 5 versions of Windows & 9 flavours of Linux in independent partitions on a single hdd. I juggle resize my partitions at least once a weekto try a new flavour of linux or some changes in unattended install.

DigeratiPrime Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Well if you're open to buying software for this task I would suggest Acronis Disk Director. I've done everything with this software on many machines and never had any problems. http://www.acronis.com/
