Problem with WGA Notifications (KB905474)

Featured Replies

I slipstreamed KB905474 into my Windows XP SP2 English along with other hotfixes and installed it. When I log on, Windows tells me that my computer is not genuine.

However, this cannot be true. I have used my (volume) product key many times before and it has never failed. I even ran the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (http://www.snipurl.com/MGADiag) on the computer and it gave me the following info.

I'm guessing that this would be better suited for another forum, but I am pretty sure that if I install KB905474 manually later, Windows would not give me the "not genuine" message.

Note: I also slipstreamed KB892130 (regular WGA).

Edit: I used a WINNT.SIF file in my installation. However, this file has been fully tested and works perfectly. In addition, the above-mentioned error only seems to occur during the first logon. I restarted the computer and the message did not reappear.

Does anyone else have this problem that XP complains the product isn't genuine at first logon and then not anymore? I can't reproduce it myself; no message is showing here.

Still waiting for some help here!

:P:D

Sorry... :)
Tomcat - did you test it with an HFSLIP'd installation?
Yes, I have.

Sorry if this sound ironic... but I'm not kidding.

I'm still seeing what I can do about this problem. I'm testing a new HFSLIP (60608a) with the new version of KB905474 (1.5.0532.2) and without my WINNT.SIF file.

Will report back. Hopefully I can fix this.

Don't know if it makes any difference but you can try adding this line into HFSLIP.CMD (right above "EXIT"):

%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\wgatray.exe /b

It's a line that I had in there during the first test releases KB905474 was supported but someone said it's working without it so I left it out.

I can't think of anything else...

XP Pro SP2, Happens every time at first boot. After you tell it to resolve later and logon it goes away. No problem on the Windows Update site.

Did it help?

BTW... Are you including LegitCheckControl.cab at the same time? If so, exclude it (it's already part of the WGA Notifications thing).

I bet including LegitCheckControl.cab is probably the reason why it gave me the error.

Sorry, but I haven't had time to test yet. Will report back as soon as I do however.

That line worked for me.

cse, I assume you also got the problem before. I think the actual reason is including LegitCheckControl.cab as well as the KB905474 hotfix. I STILL haven't had time to test , but I'm pretty sure that's why Windows was giving me that problem.

I once encountered that stupid notification on my computer as well. It appeared once and when I logged into the desktop, it went away. And I rebooted the computer and it never appeared again.

The WGA notification reappeared for me. I am testing hfslip-1.0b-61017b for XP SP2. I will try to add wgatray /b to HFSLIP.CMD if it helps this time. Perhaps the line should be automatically inserted to HFSLIP.CMD if WGA and KB905474 is installed?
