The hfslip.log,wu.txt compressed files.

cdv0.3.rarcdv0.1.rar

2006.06.03

1.I downloaded the last version HFSLIP.ZIP(HFSLIP_60528.CMD) from the main page.

2.I slipstreamed IE6.0SP1+DirectX 9.0C+Hotfix to my windows 2000 server with sp4 CD (English version) and installed in the vmware gsx VM successful.I called it version 0.1.

3.After the new system startup I updated the windows system at once. The Windows update told me that a hotfix(KB832483/ENU_Q832483_MDAC_X86.EXE,2003.12) still not to be updated. Then i downloaded the file to my HD and wanted to slipstream to the Version 0.1 CD. Can anyone tell me why an old update(ENU_Q832483_MDAC_X86.EXE,2003.12) is still need to be installed?

4.With the "Remove Internet Explorer from Windows 2000" part direction, I downloaded the "http://www.vorck.com/data/sp5files.zip", I slipstreamed DirectX 9.0C+Hotfix to CD Version 0.2. When the installtion started the screen displayed "Please insert the disk labeled Windows 2000 Professional CD into Drive A: ". This installation is failed!

5.To seperated the problem,I deleted IE6.0SP1+DirectX 9.0C+win,ms,office,update ,HF folder contented only the Hotfix files and made the CD Version 0.3. The installation is failed with the same message "Please insert the disk labeled Windows 2000 Professional CD into Drive A: ".

6.To seperated the problem, I made a new CD only with the "hfslip\source\*.*" files and directory. The installation with this CD is successful.

7.To seperated the problem, I just extracted the sp5files.zip to Fdvfiles folder and made the CD version 0.4. HF, HFCABS folder is all empty. The installation got the same failed message "Please insert the disk labeled Windows 2000 Professional CD into Drive A: ".

8.At last I extracted the sp5files.zip to "hfslip\source\i386" directly and made the CD version 0.5 with the " hfslip\source\*.*" files and directory again. The installation got the same failed message.

Anyone can help me?

Thanks!

It doesn't need to be installed because its files are updated. HFSLIP used to have a registry hack in place to stop Windows Update from complaining about it but I removed it in HFSLIP version 60528 because Q832483 is replaced by KB911562 (according to the information here). Yesterday I noticed that Windows Update is *still* complaining so I put a reduced version of the reg hack back in place in test version 60603a. Edited by Tomcat76

7.To seperated the problom, I just extracted the sp5files.zip to Fdvfiles folder and made the CD version 0.4. HF, HFCABS folder is all empty. The installation got the same failed message "Please insert the disk labeled Windows 2000 Professional CD into Drive A: ".

With the help in some reply , I try to reslove the problem like this:

1. extract the sp5files.zip to a temp dir.

2. Find and replace the "cdrom_ip.5" with "cdrom_is.5"

3. Make the CD Version 0.5.

Now i have installed the system and there is not displayed the "Please insert ... Drive A:" message again. :D

But durning the installation , the CD told me some files can not find out and copy:

cpanel_w.chq

dtcntwks.inf

setup_w.bmp

tshoot_w.chq

tshoot.inf

window_w.chq

ntapm.inf

comntwks.inf

winnt.bmp

winnt256.bmp

I think that is the samp type error message caused by the wrong version sp5files.zip.

The original sp5files.zip is created in windows 2000 Professional Version.

Anyone can help me to reslove above error?

After the installation i can log in the system as normal, but the startup screen is the Windows 2000 Professional Version. I don't know if the inf was tweaked as a workstation PC :( .

After i change the location to China ,the system copy some files as usual and restart, i find explorer error message. I sloved by hitting F8 in startup screen and logged in the "Last work configuration".

The IE remover was made by FDV for English versions of Windows 2000 Professional, so basically you got two problems to overcome: convert from Pro to Server and then from English to Chinese...

Hopefully there are people here who have some experience with this...

i am sorry goodly sirs,

but a drunk monkey with a handgun has come and taken all of my notes. he soiled my drapes, and before leaving, went to my old Smith Carona and typed

"in its box of sky grey and cornerless, the sky rattles like a fragment of angry candy."

TRUER WORDS, MY FRIENDS!! truer words.

i just had some doritos and chili. see, i like making chili (i do it the HFSLIP way) but my wife makes it with CARROTS! carrots, can you believe that? she's irish maybe that means something. actually i am irish as well and i dont use carrots. maybe it's that she has some viking in her, being 6 foot, having red hair, and getting angry at the drop of a hat. ANYWAY carrots do not belong in chili!

i dont think the chili is going to cure this cold.

Holy carp I write some weird stuff sometimes.

Anyway here some 10 years later is the fileset for Windows 2000 Server.

It's a little different than the 2k Pro fileset but it accomplishes the same thing. It does not install scanner support nor codec support. Because hey, it's a Server, why would it.

Unnecessary rant: Server products run so little software that it pi**es me off. Simple stuff like Partition Magic or Raxco Perfect Disk can't install or run because they want you to buy more expensive versions. Just had to say that.

BTW why is everyone going Ga Ga Ga Ga over Server 2008? I just picked up the Dead Can Dance Selections from North America Tour and it's amazing, WAY more amazing than Server 2008. I got to play with it (and I see it has a core install too) and I was underwhelmed. Give me a flippin' break. Give me the new features with NT 4's low-system-demand interface. I mean, it's a server, for crying out loud!! Most people will run it without a monitor!
