hougtimo Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Hi,I know the basics about the registry and what it does, I can also edit certain parts of the registry that I am comfortable with (most speed tweaks and the such like). What I want to know, is : Does having a big registry slow you computer down? Also what is considered to be a large registry?Currently my registry is 16,809k (nearly 17mb), my system is nLited and I have about 15 applications installed. Is my registry too big? are there any ways of making it smaller? is there any excess stuff in there i can get rid of? If i do slim it down, will i notice a speed increase in my PC at all?ThanksHougTimoTitle edited -- Please, use [TAGS] in your topic's title.--Sonic
Sonic Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 IMHO, keeping a small registry doesn't make a real increase speed. There are utils to defrag. the registry but I havn't tested yet, I think there isn't a noticeable improvement too ...
hougtimo Posted May 15, 2006 Author Posted May 15, 2006 I already defrag my registry with tuneup utilities 2006
boooggy Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 i did that too but didnt notice any speed increase....
cluberti Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Since your registry is allowed to grow to the size of kernel paged pool memory in XP, even with 1GB of memory it can be upwards of 150MB - so 17MB is pretty small .
firefoxthebomb Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 17 MB is not that large, the thing to remember is to keep the registry from errors as opposed to size. you can use programs like ones mentioned here, or like Registry Mechanic, norton system works (win doctor) to get that registry cleaned up (just to name a few)
