tain Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I must be missing something here. Why don't you setup the base station at the VoIP box and then setup one of the wireless wall-plug stations in the other room?
ripken204 Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 because i dont want the base in my room, and my mom wants it in her office
tain Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 So is the problem that you want to move the base station but that it needs to plug into the VoIP box? Here is how I interpret your posts:well now i have vonage and cable internet. vonage works but what i need to do now is to connect it to the whole house. but i am not allowed to disconnect myself from the outside line until vonage complets my number transer, which takes at least 20 days!Dial your new number. If it works, the transfer is complete. That 20 day crap is just to be safe. It takes hardly any time at all. i do, but the base phone is not in the same room as the vonage adapter is, it is in our home's officeSo the base station is in the office, but the VoIP box is in another room? How are they connected?my mom needs a phone in another room for her business immediety... now what am i suppose to do? i am thinking of rewiring the phone line where it comes into the house, and have it hook up to a single phone jack which i will place right next to that incoming line.Is this room different from the office where the base station currently sits? The office sounds like a place of business to me because i dont want the base in my room, and my mom wants it in her officeBut I thought that the base was already in the office/business room? Argh!
ripken204 Posted May 25, 2006 Author Posted May 25, 2006 this is fun... ill just assign numbers to ur replies1. 20 day crap? ive been told that u need to wait or else the transfer wont complete. and my virtual number works, my real number doesnt work yet b/c its not transferred.2.correct, they are not connected yet. the base is connected to the phone jack using the local telephone companies line, not vonage. the vonage is connected a cable modem which is in my room.3. the office is where my mom works, which is where the base is, its just a home office, not a work office4.and this was just responding to your confusion... which should be sorted out now
tain Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 OK, i've got a better grasp on your situation now 1. 20 day crap? ive been told that u need to wait or else the transfer wont complete. and my virtual number works, my real number doesnt work yet b/c its not transferred.Right...I was just saying to check the number now instead of waiting 20 days...it could happen any before then. When it does, you are done.2.correct, they are not connected yet. the base is connected to the phone jack using the local telephone companies line, not vonage. the vonage is connected a cable modem which is in my room. Are you trying to do something like this?
IcemanND Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 If your house is wired in a star configuration, smart home wirers do it this way, then disconnect just the home office from the rest and run a wire from the vonage box to the disconnected wires.Another option is to use the existing wire. Your phone only uses two wires, normally the center two, you colud use the outer two, then split it in you mom's office and have both there until the number is transferred. The length of time depends upon your current phone company. When I had mine transferred to SunRocket it took 29 days for the transfer and another 2 for AT&T to disconnect it.
tain Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 It took two days for my SunRocket setup to be complete...
tain Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 I am way overdue here, but perhaps you will find this site helpful.
