My computer is about 2 years old, and now we a turn it on it will go to the XP welcome screen, then when I click on the user account, it will sound like it is loading up but all that will come up is the desktop wallpaper. None of the start menus and icons will show up. :realmad: I have restarted it several times with no change. Occassionally it will have a box pop up that says error in a .dll file within the C:/Windows. I am unsure the excact name of the file. Any Suggestions?

About your problem ... Have you try'ed loging in Safe Mode? If you are able to login, go to the Registry Editor (Start > Run > regedit) and do a cleanup on the RUN folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and/or

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If you don't have a clear idea of what you are doing, try disabling in MSConfig first (Start > Run > msconfig > Startup)

Do a repair install with your XP CD. After that, use Ad-Aware SE 1.06, Spybot 1.4, M$ Anti-Spyware, CWShredder, and HijackThis, anything suspicious that shows up in HijackThis, Google it for info and eliminate if necessary. Make sure to update all the programs before you use them. Also, if you're using Norton/Symantec, go download the Symantec Norton Removal Tool, and install either Kaspersky, NOD32 or AVG Free.

I hope this helps you.

I second the safe mode attempt. Also, if safe mode does not work, a repair installation will likely be required to get things working again. If safe mode DOES work, use msconfig to disable all non-Microsoft services and all startup items, to see if that helps you boot properly in a regular mode.
