ripken204 Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 so you have the money now? and you dont even need watercooling, with a dual core opteron you should overclock at lest 2.6ghz on air with good temps.
puntoMX Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 S939 is NOT dead... absolutely NOT, A because, there will stil be the opterons for s939 (no the won't be build for M2 (at least amd says so). B because, there is a huge market for them, C because it takes about 1.5 to 2 years before end of stock... i realy think amd will think twice befor completely killing s393 (opterons) because its making them quit a lot of market share on highend desktop / and lowend server markets...Okay, there we go:Reply on A): When socket AM2 is coming out you will see that AMD will have lower prices on the AM2 CPUs then the S939, so, for all HOME users it will not be interesting do buy a Opteron any more. For the server market; I’ve not seen much people that upgrade there server just a few 100s of MHz.Reply on B): That market will die as I described above.Reply on C): Yes, it will take a long time before you can’t buy new S939 CPUs, but production is going to stop end of this year. The Socket 754 will stay because it’s the low budget market, and low budget is harder to kill as you probably know .
