When i try to move certian file...particularly movie file of some sort, i get a error moving file, due to the fact that its being used by another application. But the problem is its not being used...some of these files are just freshly dowloaded and have never been executed or modifyed in anyway. I have tryed clearing history and restarting ad even running in safe mode. The **** things will not move. Some times randomly they will up and work no problem, but im quite confused on why this happenes.

I recall there being a way to clear WMP's cache and there are other ways to help this but im at al loss, can anyone help me?

thank in advanced

That's a known issue with Windows Explorer, and a registry tweak can circumvent this. When you click on the file once (just when you're about to drag it) Windows Explorer locks on it for some reason (for preview info of some sort).

I don't know the registry tweak for it, but I'll keep an eye out.

You can stop the preview feature by going to this key and changing the default value:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler]

then double-click (default) which is set to equal {87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E} and change that to blank as in nothing.

open up my Computer...

go to tools menu / folder options / first option, Choose Windows Classic Folders

that will fix the issue

Oh yeh and click OK :)

Mr Hardcore Registry hacker

Would it not simpler to just use the folder options :D:D

This solution works great for .avi files... haven't had one problem with deleting an AVI since Drew pointed this thread out to me. Unfortunately, I just tonite got a problem with a persistent .mpeg file that refuses to be deleted. Restarting the computer corrects the situation, but this happens often enough so that I could use a more all-around solution.

Only happens with multimedia files... except avi since reading this thread.

Thanks,

SilentRob

I recall reading somewhere that there is a preview feature within windows that can continually casue this problem.

Lets see if Aaron or i can dig this up.

First try disabling all the unnessary file infos such resolution etc.

i think the preview feature gives you problems with AVI and not with mpegs,

but if you downloading a file from p2p, it might be that someone downloading that particular file from you when you trying to delete....

anyway, never saw any problems like this with mpeg except for the one i mentioned :)

Hmmmm... When all else fails, check to make sure that no programs are using it... duh this is what

I get for asking q's at 2:30 AM :)

I noticed this morning that sometimes Winamp3 stays open sometimes even after you "X" it out,

especially if Windows is busy downloading through eMule, Agent, and mIRC simultaneously. So,

I changed the associations of all video files back to WMP9 (never really liked Winamp video), and

haven't been able to duplicate the problem.

So, sorry for the false alarm, but thanks for all your help!

thats one of the problems with winamp 3, i assume you using it, since you said something about the video,

i hade a similar problem, i remember it would play the song like for 10 minutes after i would close it  it usually happens when you have your computer busy with many apps...

just use WM9 or wait for winamp 5 :)
