i'm thinking of building a website which if possible look like this forum but i'm a newbie...

i have a pc that i will set it as my server...

so what is the first step i have to do?? i'm using xp...

install iis?

first thing first, what is your connection speed. You will need enough bandwidth o be able to host sites, or your board.

You will also need to check with you ISP. Mine is Comcast and they will not allow servers on there connections at all for any reason. Even thought they offer a business connection of up to 3.5 Mb for 100 USD a month you still can not have a server that will access the Internet.

You could loose your ISP..........

Start downloading Apache/PHP/MySQL

Start installing Apache/PHP/MySQL

Start configuring Apache/PHP/MySQL

And when all that is done ...

why dont u try a webspace provider out like this for instance i think the prize is fair for the space
