hansen_dk Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 My brothers computer suddenly did'nt want to boot. It just stayed at the bootup screen with the "progress bar" active. It could only bootup in Safemode. So i thought a windows repair would fix the problem, since it usually fixes all boot related problems for me. But when It came to the part of the "installation" where it says in the left side "Installing Windows" it completely stalls with 34 minutes left. I've tried booting it a vast number of times now, and always stalls at 34 minutes. Do you guys have any ideas as for what is causing this? The disc I'm using is flawless, and the computer worked perfectly untill yesterday. Thanks in advance.Title Edited - Please follow new posting rules from now on.--Zxian
Krakatu Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 You Could Try bootup in Safemode, And Then System Restore To A Working Earlier Date!!!May Help!!!
LLXX Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 CHKDSK your hard drive whilst in safemode. It might've developed a few bad sectors.
hansen_dk Posted March 19, 2006 Author Posted March 19, 2006 heh, How am I supposed to boot it up in safemode? I mean I'm half-way through the repair proces, the installation has deleted critical systemfiles and is failing to install them again. That is the problem so it's not possible to boot it up in any mode.
cluberti Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Is your installation CD at the same service pack level as the installed version of Windows you are trying to repair? If not, this can (and does) happen - you'll have to slipstream the disk to get it to (possibly) work, because at this point you may be screwed permanently. For reference, if the system boots in safe mode, you do NOT have to repair - a system that boots in safe mode but not regular mode has an issue with a 3rd party driver, service, or startup item, but Windows itself is fine. You could've resolved most likely by using msconfig or autoruns to disable everything and reboot.

Anyway, I reinstalled completely now, but thanks for the information about safe mode. Will probably come in handy at some other time
