Joystick Problem

I have an older game called Starfleet Academy and I cannot use the joystick to maneuver the space craft, the x and y axis do not respond. I went into properties and tried all the compatibility modes to no avail.

I have tried unplugging the joystick while in the game...no luck either. I also tried changing the numbers on the joystick options file in the game...no change again.

I was able to program the hat to use like a steering mechanism. All the other buttons on my Precision 2

joystick do communicate with the game...just the axis does not respond.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is there anything wrong with the joystick hardware itself? I.e. does it work in another game?

Joystick works well with all other games.

then its just that game, most likely no fix

Windows XP is known for this incompatibility with older software... I recommend you dualboot with an older OS like 98SE and run your older software there instead. This way you shouldn't have any problems.
