February 20, 200620 yr Is there a "scandisk" that can be added to Windows XP Pro??Can it be imported from either 98 or ME??????????Title Edited - Please follow the forum rules from now on-- Martin L
February 20, 200620 yr Scandisk from Win9x was replaced by chkdsk in NT OSes. Run chkdsk /? from a command line to get options on how to use it.23:23:48.74 Sun 02/19/2006 C:\>chkdsk /?Checks a disk and displays a status report.CHKDSK [volume[[path]filename]]] [/F] [/V] [/R] [/X] [/I] [/C] [/L[:size]]volume Specifies the drive letter (followed by a colon), mount point, or volume name.filename FAT/FAT32 only: Specifies the files to check for fragmentation./F Fixes errors on the disk./V On FAT/FAT32: Displays the full path and name of every file on the disk. On NTFS: Displays cleanup messages if any./R Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information (implies /F)./L:size NTFS only: Changes the log file size to the specified number of kilobytes. If size is not specified, displays current size./X Forces the volume to dismount first if necessary. All opened handles to the volume would then be invalid (implies /F)./I NTFS only: Performs a less vigorous check of index entries./C NTFS only: Skips checking of cycles within the folder structure. The /I or /C switch reduces the amount of time required to run Chkdsk byskipping certain checks of the volume. February 20, 200620 yr Author Thanks for that.I have tried chkdsk & it tells me that I am using fat 32 which is correct, but, it will not rectify on my hard drive. That is why I wondered & thought that scandisk would be better!!
February 20, 200620 yr Author I cannot use chkdsk /f because my drive is fat 32 and it cannot lock the drive
February 20, 200620 yr Yes, you can, the problem is not that it is FAT32, but that is the boot volume or you have files in use:READ these:http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:bFNOP4...kd_tro_xudm.asphttp://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...-us/chkdsk.mspxhttp://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_defrag.htmhttp://www.ss64.com/nt/chkdsk.htmljaclaz Edited February 20, 200620 yr by jaclaz
