bristols Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 (edited) I had PNGFILT.DLL build 6.00.2800.1506, dated 27 April 2005 17:50:00, in my System directory. This seems to be the build included in the 883939 IE CU.The latest IE Cumulative Update, 905915, contains PNGFILT.DLL build 6.00.2800.1505, dated 27 April 2005 09:53:06.So 905915 contains an earlier version of PNGFILT.DLL than 883939. Strange (isn't it?).Can anyone please confirm this? And if so, any ideas as to why this is? Edited February 18, 2006 by bristols
Petr Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 This topic was already discussed here, please read MS KB article 897225.I have recommended to Gape to add ; 897225 - Install QFE version of IE updatesHKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer","QFEInstalled",0x10001,1to the SESP but it is not there yet.IE6.0sp1-KB905915-Windows-98-ME-x86-ENU.exe contains two sets of files, GDR and QFE:BROWSEUI.DLL 6.0.2800.1692 6.0.2800.1692CDFVIEW.DLL 6.0.2800.1612 6.0.2800.1612DANIM.DLL 6.3.1.148 6.3.1.148DXTRANS.DLL 6.3.2800.1525 6.3.2800.1526IEPEERS.DLL 6.0.2800.1496 6.0.2800.1497INSENG.DLL 6.0.2800.1469 6.0.2800.1475MSHTML.DLL 6.0.2800.1528 6.0.2800.1529MSRATING.DLL 6.0.2800.1623 6.0.2800.1623MSTIME.DLL 6.0.2800.1525 6.0.2800.1526PNGFILT.DLL 6.0.2800.1505 6.0.2800.1506SHDOCVW.DLL 6.0.2800.1762 6.0.2800.1762SHLWAPI.DLL 6.0.2800.1740 6.0.2800.1740URLMON.DLL 6.0.2800.1525 6.0.2800.1526WININET.DLL 6.0.2800.1525 6.0.2800.1526Petr
erpdude8 Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 (edited) PNGFILT.DLL version 6.00.2800.1505 and build 1506 are only compatible with IE 6.x and not compatible with IE 5.x and may cause problems with IE 5.x. So this file should NOT be included in the Win98se SP since the SP only contains updates for IE 5. Edited February 20, 2006 by erpdude8
bristols Posted February 20, 2006 Author Posted February 20, 2006 Thanks Petr.Hope the QFEInstalled reg fix is included in the next service pack.
erpdude8 Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Thanks Petr.Hope the QFEInstalled reg fix is included in the next service pack.whups. wasnt paying close attention. The QFEInstalled registry setting should be a good addition to the 98se SP. It'll make those new IE6 SP1 security updates install the QFE versions of files instead of the normal GDR versions.
