Confused through WU

Hi.

MS Patchday.....so i go to WU and looked for W2k-updates.

I have a German W2kSP4 with IE6SP1 and all fixes (thanks Tomcat for his site), without WMP9.

But, WU tried to install the Hotfix kb911565 for WMP9.

Anyone knows why???

You probably included WindowsMedia9-KB885492-x86-DEU.exe. The new hotfix superceeds this one.

Thx for your answer. Thats why i´m confused. I have no WMP9 hoftfix in HFfolder.

Read the KB-Article of 911565. Searched for Wmp.dll and found a version 9.00.003250 wmp.dll in system 32 folder. Where does it come from? I really have no WMP 9 Hotfix or WMP 9 installed on this System.

Just in case...

If you're multi-booting, make sure you look in the right system32 folder.

Other than that, I got no ideas.

One option to see what file in your HF folder has WMP.DLL is to search HFSLP*.INF files in the sourcess\i386 folder for INF files that contain the string wmp.dll. You can do this by the search window. Open the INF file up and read it with notepad and get your KB article for it.

I´ve found it!

I installed a selfcreated Codecpack for Audio- and Videofiles in which i have packed the Version 9 wmp.dll.

This mistake is homemade.
