stroked03 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I purchased MCE 2005 from Tigerdirect. When I loaded the fisrt disk it asked for disk 2 installed it which I already. I then got it all loaded up and it says 2002 in my sys properties. Both disk also says 2005 on it. So I figured ok the 3rd disk would fix the problem. I tried to load it. I get an error that says must install net.framewor 1.1 and net.framework 1.1sp1. I did that. sys rebooted now. I then try to reinstall disk 3 labled MCE Updates for version 2005. That's as far as I can get. Why do my disk say 2005 but load as 2002. I also know that 2005 has a few different things like windows media 10 as vs my 9.Can someone please help me out. I have working on this for many hours and I'm ready to throw this pc.
hougtimo Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Media Center 2005 does show as 2002 in system properties, as it is basically normal XP pro with add ons. Also, media center 2005 does not ship with Media Player 10. You need to update that yourself. I am sure you do have XP media Center 2005, it just has quirks

flupke Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 XP MCE 2002 has WMP 9 and version 2005 should have WMP 10 included. Have a look at the about screen of Media Center, there you can see wether it is version 2002 or 2005. System properties can say 2002 even when you have 2005.It is very weird that Tigerdirect gave you 3 discs. So you have: disk 1: XP Pro SP2, disk 2: MCE 2002, disk 3: MCE update 2002->2005? Normally it is disk 1: XP Pro SP2 and disk 2: MCE 2005. Thank you for the info, now we know Tigerdirect sucks. The second disk of version 2005 also contains .NET Framework 1.1 but I don't know if it's also the case for version 2002. You will have to make sure .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 are installed. Not only for Media Center, also for other software.
Bezalel Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 It looks like TigerDirect is selling MCE 2005 with Update Rollup 2 on the third disk.

I was wondering if that version is based on Windows 2003?If it's based on 2002, which is the normal XP, then it's probably just Windows XP SP2 with more bloat No thanks.
