Hi all,

I've started to see companies advertise this type of Windows XP, what does the N, stand for?. And what is the difference between this and the old Windows XP Pro?.

Thanks

Steve

I believe that it is a slimmed down version of XP [lacking in Media Player etc] due to the EU dispute with MS regarding things in their OS.

Take a looky at this:

Its a bit old but it might help ya understand.

EDIT: lol beat me to that one - didnt even get a decent search result for your URL find lol Good one :)

Cheers

Nath.

How do the N editions remove WMP, do they have a differant txtsetup.sif or does the CD-Key determine if it will be an N edition? More importantly, how can I make my own N edition CD? (Don't say nLite, I want my OS to be recognized as an N edition)

i was curious about this, so i downloaded xp N from the microsoft volume licensing site...

installed it on a old laptop, (using my vl key)

media player is not on this, it does not give you a choice to install it.

if you want it....you have to download it!!

Sans media player is there anything else that makes it separate from the other versions of XP that are out? I am guessing this is based on MS XP Home.

Home and pro....
