you cant, you can compress data with archivers like 7-zip and winRAR. but you will NEVER be able to fit a dvd's worth of data onto one cd.

Yes if data is redoundant like different version of windows xp ... you can use "optimize" function of UltraISO or CDImageGUI (which is free). All same file will be burn one time. Mine example : 2,6gb in 596mb ready.
