hi i tried ral media alternative, but i guess it adds another player. what i want is my own media plaey to be configured to play rmvb files. aftewr installing real media alternative(i didn't select the player in options-just codecs), it still doesn't play thje .rmvb files same error "the layer has no codecs to play this file"

any ideas???

Because of a nLite installation I don't have Windows Media Player anymore, but afaik it should just work cause it's also just DirectShow.

By the way, you do have a AAC Decoder installed don't you? If not, please do (preferrably ffdshow, but CoreAAC Decoder is oke too), since there's a good possibility the RMVB-file houses AAC Audio.

i don't have wmp either.

the only directshow player i use is zoomplayer and as soon as i install real alternative it plays anything real.

maybe you have "kazaa codec pack" installed or so? that thing is evilness personified. get rid of it while you can. it's often causing codec trouble.

aac has nothing to do with it, i don't think.
