32tango Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 hi i have tried searching for rmvb\rm codecs for windows media player 10 , buit haven't been able to find any. anybody has any idea any codec packages which can play .rmvb file in windows media playerthanks
JRosenfeld Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I'm not aware of any, it is real player proprietary format.
posix Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 (edited) real alternative is what you need. it let's you install the rm (realmedia) splitter and decoders needed for a directshow player like "windows media player" to play rm files.--> http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm#realaltps. the same exists for quicktime and windowsmedia, by the way. 32tango Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 hi i tried ral media alternative, but i guess it adds another player. what i want is my own media plaey to be configured to play rmvb files. aftewr installing real media alternative(i didn't select the player in options-just codecs), it still doesn't play thje .rmvb files same error "the layer has no codecs to play this file"any ideas???
Reino Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Because of a nLite installation I don't have Windows Media Player anymore, but afaik it should just work cause it's also just DirectShow.By the way, you do have a AAC Decoder installed don't you? If not, please do (preferrably ffdshow, but CoreAAC Decoder is oke too), since there's a good possibility the RMVB-file houses AAC Audio.
suryad Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I have it set up on my machine so I use WMP 10 to open and run any vid file, Divx, Real, QT etc. Is that what you are looking for?
posix Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 (edited) i don't have wmp either.the only directshow player i use is zoomplayer and as soon as i install real alternative it plays anything real.maybe you have "kazaa codec pack" installed or so? that thing is evilness personified. get rid of it while you can. it's often causing codec trouble.aac has nothing to do with it, i don't think.
