CAT file question

Hey guys,

I have some quick questions about CAT files, hoping someone would know the answers to.

1) If you are looking at the original source of a Windows CD, how can you tell what file is protected by what CAT file?

2) How can you tell the name and version of a file listed by a loong string of letters/numbers in the CAT file?

3) How do you modify a CAT to merge maybe two updates together or fully slipstream files without the need for extra CAT files?

I think this might be useful for maybe making an unofficial package invovling updating 2000/XP with the 2003 SP1 version of Windows Script 5.6 (build 8827 instead of build 8825) or Windows Media Player 9 from XP SP2 on 2000 (build 3250 instead of build 2980).
