Hi Newbie here needs help from expert

Hi im ben and im new to this execellent forum. I like it because it is packed full of great information to help me learn more.

But i do have a question which does not seem to be amoung the 100s of posts.

Apart from Windows 2000 which other windows operating systems can i consider as a network operating system?

Linux,UNIX,Solaris,Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Netware.

Wow thanks jondercik that was a quick reply, which of the above are open source, apart form linux - is unix and netware open source?

Generally no, but they do have the ability to run alot of open source apps but the core OS is closed source.

linux is open source: - and has many good distributions:

some example:

a good Network server (like MS Directory Services)

[*]Complete Webserver (CWS) A verre good Out of the Box Webserver installation

[*]Zenwalk linux Small Lighweight Desktop linux, with just 1 aplication for every task its enought to get the job done.

also there is Open Solaris, and windows 3.11 for workgroups
