druiddk Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Hi all,I really hope someone could give a tip towards what hotfix that is causing this problem.During my unattended installation of Windows XP there is a dialog box popping up regarding Windows Media Player 10. There are the options of pressing OK or Cancel. If i press OK i give up the chance of later undoing this change trough System Restore. However what is bugging me is i removed Windows Media Player trough nLite and as far as i see i have not included any hotfixes regarding to WMP.If you want i can include the list of hot fixes im using...Any tips? :-)
druiddk Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 The precise text in the dialog is:Headline: Windows Media Player 10Text:System Restore is turned off. If you continue Setup, you will beunable to use System Restore to restore the version of WindowsMedia Player that was included with the Windows operating systemthat your computer is running. It is recommended that you clickCancel, turn on System Restore, and then upgrade to WindowsMedia Player 10. For more information about System Restore, seeHelp and Support. Do you want to continue?Buttons: OK / Cancel
cyberyeye Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 (edited) Hi !I had the same pb due to SR desactivation. In fact i've found a "easy" solution, using the Windows Media Player deployment pack (EDP) you can repack the installer (unattended) including your hotfix and regtweak.FAQ: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...loypackFAQ.aspxDL: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...deploypack.aspxWhat's new?The latest version of the Enterprise Deployment Pack includes support for:Windows Media Player 10Windows Media Player 9 SeriesStandard Microsoft hotfix packagesIt works fine Edited November 30, 2005 by cyberyeye
druiddk Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 Hi cyberyeye,Thank you for taking time to reply. However i dont know if you read my post? I am trying to NOT get WMP9 (nor WMP10) to get installed (Removed it using nLite).I will be using Windows Media Player Classic instead.
cluberti Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 In your setup line for Windows Media Player, use the switch "/DisallowSystemRestore". This will remove the prompt.

Gaop Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 (edited) You are right it's a hotfix that's causing this problem.After messing around with the svcpack.ini file I finally found the one that's causing the problem.It's the KB891122 hotfix.I added the /DisAllowSystemRestore to the hotfix, and now there's no prompt what so ever.[CatalogHeader][Version]BuildNumber=2600MinorVersion=1MajorVersion=5Signature="$WINDOWS NT$"[SetupData]CatalogSubDir="\I386\svcpack"[SetupHotfixesToRun]KB891122.exe /q /n /z /DisAllowSystemRestoreKB909520.exe /q /n /zKB905749.exe /q /n /zKB905414.exe /q /n /zKB904706.exe /q /n /zKB902400.exe /q /n /zKB901214.exe /q /n /zKB901017.exe /q /n /zKB900725.exe /q /n /zKB899591.exe /q /n /zKB899589.exe /q /n /zKB899587.exe /q /n /zKB898461.exe /q /n /zKB896688.exe /q /n /zKB896428.exe /q /n /zKB896424.exe /q /n /zKB896423.exe /q /n /zKB896422.exe /q /n /zKB896358.exe /q /n /zKB893803v2.exe /q /n /zKB893756.exe /q /n /zKB893066.exe /q /n /zKB891781.exe /q /n /zKB890859.exe /q /n /zKB890046.exe /q /n /zKB888302.exe /q /n /zKB888113.exe /q /n /zKB887742.exe /q /n /zKB886185.exe /q /n /zKB885836.exe /q /n /zKB885835.exe /q /n /zKB885250.exe /q /n /z[ProductCatalogsToInstall]KB891122.catbasecsp.catKB905749.catKB905414.catKB904706.catKB902400.catKB901214.catKB901017.catKB900725.catKB899591.catKB899589.catKB899587.catKB898461.catKB896688.catKB896428.catKB896424.catKB896423.catKB896422.catKB896358.catKB893803v2_wxp.catKB893756.catKB893066.catKB891781.catKB890859.catKB890046.catKB888302.catKB888113.catKB887742.catKB886185.catKB885836.catKB885835.catKB885250.catHope this will also help you B) Edited December 4, 2005 by Gaop
cluberti Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 @Cluberti:Im not installing Windows Media Player... it must be some hotfix thats causing this :-(However i cant figure out which one :-(Even though you didn't believe me, glad to see my answer was still correct - good for the ego, you know . J/KThis switch will work for Windows Media Player, and most Windows Media Player hotfixes and updates (except perhaps Windows Media Connect, but that's techincally a shell update and not a WMP-specific update). Glad everything's working again.
druiddk Posted December 5, 2005 Author Posted December 5, 2005 hehe, no matter what response people give its always nice to see they took the time to open a topic, read the problem and give their reply.Thank you all again :-)

SirBlade Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 (edited) changing the line "KB891122.exe /q /n /z /DisAllowSystemRestore" to svcpack.inf does remove the error during installation but when i start windowsupdate afterwards the KB891122 update still needs to be installed.
